- Gas price reimbursement. A smaller subcommittee met a few weeks ago and decided that the best, simplest solution would be to offer everyone at CCE a reimbursement for their fuel costs. This would be calculated every week, using the price of gas in Los Angeles every Monday. People would be compensated using the following formula: median distance from work divided by average mile per gallon fuel efficiency for American cars. This number would be multiplied by the price per gallon of gas in Los Angeles on that week's Monday and multiplied by five to arrive at that week's reimbursement. A number that we came up with during a sample week was $33.75 for gas at $4.50 per gallon and the median distance from home being 30 miles. This solution is simple, cheap, and takes a minimal amount of calculation. We will present the solution to the boss when he returns from his vacation in three weeks.
- Paper/foam cups. Val pointed out that some of the paper/foam cups used in the break room contain a funky residue. This residue can possibly get into whatever it is you are drinking. Therefore, Val and I decided that we might as well take this opportunity to replace all of the paper/foam cups currently used the break room with generic ceramic cups. There might be some resistance to this idea, but we might as well take the opportunity and give the shot. Val is ordering the cups and we will replace the paper/foam cups when the new ceramic cups arrive.
- Silverware. Long ago we decided that we should replace the plastic utensils that are currently being used in the break room. I think that we should do this now while we're replacing the paper cups.
- Recycling container for upstairs break room. On Monday I will bring a recycling container for the upstairs break room. Fanchon had mentioned that it was kind of pain to bring the plastic bottles and such downstairs. People were throwing them away.
