Meeting Notes: March 25, 2009

Green geeks! Here are my meeting notes from today's meeting:
  • Next meeting: April 1, Weds, 10am outside on patio--the meeting will be devoted entirely to Earth Day planning
  • Erin S. will send out newsletter
  • Mark G. will contact DC and ask if they want to be involved in task force
  • Mark G. will create a list of projects that require funding

Earth Day

  • Natale will Contact Greg B. and Val about funding, room use for Earth Day
  • Erin S. will mention it in our newsletter
  • We need to think about what to do with with the money
  • List of stuff that we can grow in community garden—solicit suggestions
  • Elba: bike to work day booth
  • David: awareness booth—explain why we are doing this
  • Food providers: Erin S.—cookies, carrot cake, Mark—lasagna, pasta; Natale—to be determined; Erin B.—to be determined
  • We discussed charging for food: we will either charge for all food or just for desserts
  • Music: boom box, computer
  • Awareness Garden: Sponsor a plant

Awareness Garden (i.e., Victory Garden, Recession Garden, etc)

  • Three purposes: (1) to produce food for staff and charity (2) to provide psychological benefits to employees (3) to provide a use for our compost
  • Our goal for what to do with food: should be consumed by staff, donate the rest of it to charities
  • Our plan: we will use as much possibly can and donate rest to Calabasas food bank
  • We will use containerized plants
  • People on staff could sponsor a plant
  • We could use donated supplies
  • Erin B: we should write out a process and come up with list of supplies needed
Composting
  • Elba mentioned vermiculture—but where to keep the container?
  • Mark G. mentioned a possible procedure: smaller containers by the garbage upstairs and downstairs, which are emptied out nightly into the composter, which is kept in the Awareness Garden

Bike to work day
  • Elba will post poster; Erin B. will print
  • Sponsor a rider: have this at Earth Day
  • Mark G. has a bike somebody can borrow
